As you know one of my goals was to do a project every week. This could be as simple as a scrapbook page or something more time intense like what I’m about to share with you. It doesn’t really matter so much as it’s something creative, something that just makes me happy, or something I have been dying to work on or get to…like cleaning out a closet.
So last week I saw this very cool set of drawers in our garage that has been there for years, but really hasn’t been used to it’s potential. I asked Adam if I could bring it inside and use it for all my scrapbook supplies. He of course didn’t care and to tell you the truth I think was thrilled to get it out of the garage. So Monday I started cleaning it out and what I found feared me into almost not accepting this piece. It appears this cabinet had been lived in. Ok, this should be nothing new to me. We had a bit of a mouse infestation (no judgment please) in our last house and apparently we didn’t clean this out before moving. Dispite my reservations the cabinet was just way too cool to pass up so I decided to move forward anyway and take the best precautions to protect myself. I was able to get it all cleaned out, it really wasn’t that bad but it did take forever, and then dosed the whole thing in clorox. I woke up yesterday morning and still wasn’t feeling 100% about it so I rubbed the whole thing in clorox once again. Then I lined it all with the kitchen liners. I feel much better now.
I couldn’t be more thrilled with this set of drawers. I haven’t filled it yet and i know it looks a bit banged up, but that will change. I’m not quite done with it. I still want to find cute knobs and will most likely end up painting it again and sanding the edges once the warm weather hits. For now I’m just thrilled I brought this back to life and now have a great way to store my embellishments.
Are you working on anything this week?
The picture of the drawer itself is very pleasing and I love the style of the dresser. I will admit that I am so envious of your whole studio- I would spend every evening out there! I hope you take pictures of how you organize your stuff in the drawers. Great job braving the clean out job!
Oh – this project makes me excited! Those drawer dividers are awesome. I love your whole “project a week” plan. This one particularly will lead to so many others! I, too, would love to hang in your studio! And always, hurray to clorox, a true friend.
What a great rescue! It looks like the perfect thing for embellishments! Clorox saves the day. I really like your project a week idea — that may really help me get some things done. I tend to think of all the things I want or need to do and my head spins, and it is probably more effective to concentrate on one thing and put your energy into that.
The thing is so cool. I can’t believe it was just sitting in your garage waiting for you to discover (and disinfect) it. Your studio is something to be admired already, now it’s going to go to the next level. Wow.
What a great piece. I love that drawer. This week I am working on turning a storage room into a craft room.
Love it! Love when you can find something old and reuse it! This will be fantastic! Love the drawer dividers! I want a studio! 🙂
Wow, I’m impressed! I love the idea of a project a week (even if I’m just echoing everyone else). Things like that definitely make me happy.
I found your blog from Kelly’s and thought I would say “hi.” I was looking at your photography and scrapbook sections. They are amazing! I think I could be happy just taking pictures and scrapbooking. I just need to be more disciplined.
It’s hard to believe you had that sitting, unused, in the garage when it’s so cool! I would have been skittish about the clean-up job but it’s totally worth it. Did it come with those dividers already in it?
Also hard to believe your studio is getting even cooler! Maybe I should adopt the project a week plan. I used to want to do something creative every day, but it wasn’t always possible and then I would be bummed…
such a cool piece to organize things in! i love it. i don’t know if i would have been able to brave the clean up. you rock.
i’m working on getting our “office/studio” (ok, the studio is a little wishful thinking at this point, but i have a fab table in here that needs to start getting used for creating and not storing!) in working order. it seems we keep a lot of stuff in here and i want us to use the room more. i’m pretty excited about it!
i like the project a week to keep me moving in the right direction. i’m trying to “fly” again this year and feel more motivated than ever.
I’m having a hard time with the fly philosophy right now because our basement is oh so close to being done and I feel displaced and so unorganized. I want to scream. Next month though I will be going crazy with organizing. My true passion in life.
I love the dresser. I just love old furniture. I need to find a cool piece for Alexis’ room now that once again one of the drawers has fallen apart.
Hi Amy. I came by and read your goal about one project a week and decided that is SUCH a good idea. One a week is doable with kids and it makes you feel like you’re getting something done for you. Such a good idea!! Thanks for sharing. Good for you for having the guts to get passed the mouse infestation and make this usable.
love it amy… great piece, cant wait to see the finished project!
I love old furniture and making good use of it. Something you will do no doubt after cleaning all the mouse out of it. I love your project and can’t wait to see all you do!
