When the weather turns cold and you know fall is coming all I can think about is Halloween. I just love this time of year. When I was a kid I looked forward to dressing up, the yummy warm chili and hot chocolate we would get before venturing out in the cold, the candy, being with friends, the parade at school, answering the doorbell, the decorations…I love it all. And of course Halloween meant Thanksgiving and Christmas were soon on there way.
We have a great tradition in our family of craving pumpkins several times throughout the season. It’s hard to just do it once so we start early when the pumpkins first arrive, then when those pumpkins turn rotten we do it all over again so on Halloween we have fresh pumpkins at our doorstep. We bought some over the weekend and were hoping to start carving, but life has been crazy busy. I am thinking this weekend will be the perfect time. Adam has the girls draw a picture of what they want their pumpkins to look like and Adam does the carving…still too young in my book to carve, but lucky for them they get to gut it. All the girls were fighting over the same small one so when Bella was done with her picture she taped it to the pumpkin she wanted. It created quite the ruckus.
Ok- that is so funny about Bella. We have the fight over who’s pumpkin is whose each year. I am so impressed that you do the carving multiple times a year. I wish I would- but I’m not that patient. I was so excited to do it with my kids the first time they were old enough and was so dissappointed because the carving was harder than I realized and my kids didn’t want to touch the guts—so I got to do all of them by myself. Anticlimatic to my dreams! I’d love to see Adam’s carving at work- post the pictures!
mindy i will definitely post pictures when we are finished.
I love that I am not the only one that wants to carve them more than once. Linc keeps telling me that I am crazy- now I feel justified! I can’t wait for Mya to squish all the guts this year. I LOVE the picture thing, what a great idea and I love that Bella taped it to the little one- what a cutie!
I just love that tradition of carving more than once! I’ve never heard of and have certainly never thought of doing that! I also think that it’s genius that you have the girls DRAW what they want it to look like first. This must really stimulate some creative expressions on them! Super ideas.
I love the Halloween decorations and pumpkin photos. You guys always embrace the season right away instead of waiting too long and getting into it right before it ends like I always do. I don’t want to miss it this year.
